Just saying “I am Ātma” is not enough.
It must become your living experience — and that naturally changes how you act in society.
1️⃣ Intellectual Knowing vs Realization
In the Upanishads it is said that:
- Hearing the truth (śravaṇa) is first step.
- Reflecting on it (manana) is next.
- Deep realization (nididhyāsana) is final.
If “I am Ātma” is only a thought,
ego still operates.
Realization means:
- No ego reaction
- No hatred
- No fear
- No selfishness
2️⃣ What Did Sathya Sai Baba Teach?
He said:
“If you say you are God, your behavior must show it.”
Meaning:
If you truly know you are Ātma:
- You will not hurt others.
- You will see the same divinity in everyone.
- You will act with love and selflessness.
Knowledge must express as character.
3️⃣ Does Realization Mean Leaving Society?
No.
Even in the Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna teaches:
- Perform your duty.
- Act without ego.
- Act without attachment to result.
Realization does not mean inactivity.
It means ego-free action.
4️⃣ What Happens When Knowledge Is Real?
Before realization:
“I am the doer.”
After realization:
“Actions happen through this body, but I am the witness.”
Outwardly:
- You work
- You serve
- You speak
- You live normally
Inwardly:
- No pride
- No anxiety
- No selfish attachment
5️⃣ Very Important Point
If someone says:
“I am Ātma, so I can behave however I want,”
That is ego speaking — not realization.
True knowledge increases:
- Humility
- Compassion
- Patience
- Responsibility
6️⃣ Simple Example
If you know electricity is flowing:
- You use it carefully.
- You don’t misuse it.
Similarly, if you know you are divine:
- You live more carefully.
- You act more lovingly.
🌿 Final Answer
Knowing “I am Ātma” is the beginning.
Living in alignment with it is the completion.
Inner realization + outer right action
= Spiritual maturity.
